Baker & Joy provide Independent Person services to assist in the investigation of Children Act  Stage 2 complaints. Our Independent Person’s role is to ensure the process is fair and that the complainants views are heard. We ensure that the complaint is investigated fairly and openly.

The Children Act provides a right to people who are using or want to use services to make complaints about the Local authority if they are unhappy with the services they are receiving or wishing to receive. Increasingly, these complaints come directly from the child or young person themselves. This is an extremely daunting process. Our Independent Person services are designed to support the complainant to ensure that their input is valued and listened to. Our goal is to aid in the positive resolution of the complaint.











 



Our Independent Person services include:

Ensure that the complainant is actively involved in the process
•    Ensuring that their views are heard and acted upon
•    Ensuring a thorough investigation is undertaken

•    Attending Interviews and reviewing all relevant documentation
•    Providing a report to the local authority

Instructed & Non-Instructed

In most cases our clients are able to express their wishes and opinions and, working together, they can instruct us on the best course of action for them to speak up for what they want. On some occasions, it is not possible to communicate with people about their views and options. We are non-instructed advocacy experts. We employ a range of non-instructed techniques such as testing any decision against a range of 'quality of life' principles, Best Interest and Human Rights models. We also offer training courses on both instructed and non-instructed advocacy techniques.
